Social Media Slavery
I wrote a post last week about Social Media Omnipresence. About how impossible it is, and how trying to achieve it can actually harm your brand. I have the same sentiments about social media slavery.
Be present. Be consistently present. Sure. But don’t be a slave to social media. Don’t feel like you have to be on your social platforms all the time. It won’t hurt your online brand, but it will hurt your offline life. And that’s what’s important.
Social media is a tool to connect with people in ways we couldn’t otherwise. But your connections only go so deep until you take it offline. Face-to-face.
We in social media tend to have an addiction to the online community, and can sometimes neglect the more important offline world. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve answered DMs on Twitter while hanging out with someone in person.
To build your brand, be present on social media platforms on a consistent basis. But to maintain your offline life, build boundaries for your social media presence. Just a friendly reminder from someone who needed it herself.
How do you feel about social media slavery? Do you feel pressured to be present online for more time than you should?
