My Summer at SAS: Week 7

I first wrote this post for the SAS blog Conversations and Connections. SAS has been awesome enough to let me repost it here.

Editor’s [David B. Thomas] note: Stacey has been doing a tremendous amount of extremely valuable work around here. She’s going to be a great hire for somebody.

Week of July 26, 2010

(Monday, 7/26) Day 30:

Shot my first video post today. When Nick’s editing software comes in, hopefully I’ll be able to join him for that process. Posting date is TBA right now. Stay tuned…

(Tuesday, 7/27) Day 31:

I have 43 followers on Twitter. Now I know that doesn’t sound like a lot to you people reading this that have like 2,000, but it makes me feel popular. And like I have good things to say. I’ve even been listed by a couple people.

(Wednesday, 7/28) Day 32:

I just called up Jeff Cohen to talk to him about best practices for Facebook for business. It was pretty awesome. I’m writing a post about it now.

In other news: Wayne Sutton’s mom and my mom have the same birthday. It’s today. Happy birthday moms!

(Thursday, 7/29) Day 33:

Six students interning at SAS in the UK just agreed to participate in the internal student blog. I’m so excited to add a more global perspective.

(Friday, 7/30) Day 34:

I’m joining Nick today to edit my video post we recorded on Monday. Other than that, this is going to be a super busy day.

Weekly Recap:

So what have I been up to this week? Well, I had a meeting with Christine to put up on the portal the info I collected for the curriculum and the directory. Adding that information, which is an extensive process, is the majority of what I’ve been doing this week. Plus, we’re trying to launch the portal early next week, so I have to get them in as quickly as possible. The list is 224 items strong so far, which means I’m a rock star.

I’ve also gotten several writing assignments from Dave that will become posts for the blog, and moonlight as resources on the social media curriculum. 1) How to effectively participate in Facebook for business. This is the one I talked to Jeff Cohen about on Wednesday. 2) LinkedIn best practices. Dave and I found a post that I can reference for this one. We also sent out requests for tips on Twitter, and I started a discussion in one of my groups on LinkedIn. 3) There was a Lunch-n-learn session yesterday about using Google tools like Alerts and Reader. Felicia and Justin gave a great presentation, and I learned a ton. These posts will be up within the next week, so make sure you check back, and give them a read when they go live.
