Help Bring Noor and Ramsay Home

You may have seen my previous posts about how in certain cases, social media can save lives. Today’s post is about how social media can help a father find his kidnapped children. The case is by no means closed, but Colin Bower is using Facebook to help in his search for his two sons, Noor and Ramsay.

Over a year ago the boys were kidnapped by their mother and taken to her native country, Egypt. No one knows where they are, and only recently has Colin learned that they are alright. Every two weeks, Colin—who was awarded sole custody in the couple’s 2008 divorce—flies to Cairo to attend a court-ordered visit with his boys. They never show, and Colin is hesitant to believe that his ex-wife will ever honor these visits.

As a part of his fight, Colin has created a Facebook page “Help Bring Noor and Ramsay Home” to update supporters on the case, raise awareness on the issue, and send messages to his sons. According to this coverage by NBC’s the Today Show, Colin’s oldest son Noor has actually seen this page, so there’s a good chance he’s seen the messages sent by not only his father, but his friends and family as well.

On Colin’s page, there is a tab listing media coverage of the story; the lineup is impressive. The most important tab, however, is the one entitled “Help Bring…” Here you can learn all the ways you can help Colin bring his sons home, including signing up for emails sent out when help is needed on specific issues, and asking friends and family to “like” the page to show increasing support for Colin’s cause. There is also a button to email Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, asking her to ask the Egyptian government to return the boys when she sees them during their visit to Washington for Middle East peace talks.

Each of these steps is short and simple. Even the email is completed in two clicks. If you have 30 seconds—and who doesn’t—please take at least one of these actions, and then suggest the page to friends. The more support Colin gets, the more likely he’ll get his sons back. You can be a part of that. Thanks.
