Just Show Up and Read

Last week I wrote a post in reflection of a Copyblogger post I read called How to Show Up and Write. I talked about how I’ve been having a hard time getting time to write posts, and how I just need to schedule time to write. I later got a comment on the post by my friend Deirdre Reid talking about how it’s also a good idea to schedule time to read.

I had never thought about that, but it’s a really good idea. Reading other bloggers’ posts is where I get a lot of my content ideas. It’s also where I get more information on my field so that I’m a more informed professional. Scheduling time to read should be a part of my job.

I’m sitting here thinking about my Google Reader–something I haven’t looked at in probably a week–and I’m scared at the number of unread posts that will be waiting for me. I know there’s such great content in each of those blogs I’ve subscribed to, but I haven’t been keeping up with them. This has left me with little content, and feeling like I’m totally out of the loop.

So starting this week, I’m going to carve time out of my schedule to not only show up and write, but also to show up and read what others have written. Who’s with me?
